105 days to go!!
I'm getting totally excited about it. Well, I've always been excited. But for awhile there, I was thinking the planning while downrange was no fun. I do miss some of the things that I could be doing that my friends who are engaged are doing (like actually trying on their dresses), but Joe and my mom have been GREAT.
I have finished almost all the invitations. Since we're not doing save the dates, they'll be coming soon. I'm hoping they weigh less than 13 oz. That would make them FREE to mail!
Here's the deal: Joe and I have widespread families. We want to make everyone happy and we want everyone to come. We realize that's not necessarily possible. We originally planned to have a ceremony in August and THE reception within a few months. As planning is happening, it's all falling into August. We are still planning a party in the fall of 2011, but we both have so much going on in the next year that it's going to be a very delayed reception. So, August has essentially become the real thing. We don't want the "typical wedding" but we want certain pieces to occur at the time we say our vows. As the planning has happened, it seems that more people than we thought wanted to witness our ceremony, and if the trip was going to be made for that, then we wanted to include a way to celebrate with those who came, which when all added up creates a reception following the ceremony.
We understand that people will have to make a choice: Seattle or New York if both are not possible. We would love to see as many people as we can in Seattle and New York. We leave it up to our guests to determine how they wish to share with us.
Currently, our time line is:
August 27th:
Rehearsal is at 1600
Rehearsal is at 1600
The Mariners play a home game at 1900.
August 28th: The ceremony is at noon.
Joe and I will do location shots in the time between the end of the ceremony and arriving at my mom's house.
2pm MOB's house for drinks, dinner, and cake. It's going to be informal, buffet style. I'm planning on some dancing on the 1/2 court basket ball court in the back.
August 29th: Family breakfast at the Space Needle (hopefully, I need to check that out)
I will be extended in Germany unti February, where I will be going to Hawaii until May 31st. I have been slotted for the OB/GYN course and will be moving to Fort Lewis, Washington in June. I will likely be unable to take leave for the first few months of orientation. So, this pushes the reception idea back further and further. The current vision is that we will have a party in New York around September/October in the West Point area.
