Last night we had our first dust storm. The whole day lead up to it, it was oppressive and hazy. After dark you couldn't see through to the skies, it almost looked like fog. Once I got back into my CHU the wind started. I could hear it whistling in through my door that doesn't seal. With the wind came the sand. You know when you're driving behind a big truck and it kicks gravel back up into your windshield? That's what this storm sounded like- only the gravel was hitting all sides of my tin can. I could even hear rocks getting inide my AC/heating unit and bouncing around. The air was full of dirt. I have a constant tickle in my throat that I can't get rid of and it makes me cough. I made the mistake of wondering what the booming sound of thunder was and got a face full of it through the crack in my door. After the wind and with the thunder came the rain and lightening. It lit up the whole skye in hazy, dirty orange. It didn't last very long. Maybe 30 minutes. My internet was working all throughout. Then magically, once the storm was over, the internet was gone. K and I went knocking on people's CHU's to see if it was just us... and it pretty much was and wasn't. 1/2 of our LSA was out. the "A" block had theirs, but the "B" block did not. So, it was only 930pm and I was going to be up all night with no internet.
I always find that I want the interent more than I actually need it so i got over the fact that i was bummed it was out and I worked on my cross stitching, which was fun and productive. Eventually my neck started hurting so I took a break and thought about watching a movie. I didn't really want to watch a two hour movie so I thought about what I could watch in an hour. I remembered my mom sent me Glee. I'd been hearing about this show for a year but I hadn't watched it. I'm not sure why it took me so long, but I'm hooked now. Better late than never. It was so much fun. I've finished the first four episodes and I almost wish I were back in high school so that I could be in show choir again. I miss the days of singing for fun, dancing for fun, and being a part of a group like that. Why do kids get to have all the fun? Where's the Army show choir???

Oh, so long ago....
Ugh, this is a tanget, but someone's got to understand. Smokers are gross. In Iraq I have very limited air to begin with. Smokers take that away. There are only a few places where I am safe from them. You would THINK that the bathroom would be one of them. NO. I walked into a port-a-potty FILLED with cigarette smoke. I still smell like that cigarette smoke filled port-a-potty that I was in for an extremely short period of time. It wasn't even raining out, it's perfectly nice today. Smokers can already smoke outside my room so stay out of my toilet. Gross..... ugh! I would like to come home from this deployement with out asthma or cancer, thank you.
